With three victories in the Kentucky Derby aboard Winning Colors (1988), Thunder Gulch ('95) and Silver Charm ('97), Stevens' stellar career included wins in more than 5,000 races Stevens won countless awards and prizes in the horse racing industry including the prestigious George Woolf Memorial Jockey Award in 1996 earned an Eclipse Award as outstanding rider in 1998.
Gary began his career on the western tracks. He rode his first winner at LeBois Park in Idaho and held the riding title at Longacres from 1981 through 1984.
On November 25, 2005, Stevens announced his retirement collecting over $221 million and 3 Kentucky Derby's, 3 Belmont Stakes, and 2 Preakness Stakes.
